server authentication

Oct 23, 2014 05:14PM EDT

We have a project that requires user login into our photo site to view and download images.

The way we have this set up currently is to password protect the website directory on our server... have the user login w/ their credentials and then access the site.

Unfortunately this is not working with our Koken install.
I cannot upload photos or even view the site because of the authentication going on. (Loop error)

Is there a way to remedy this problem?
Koken would save us HOURS of time if I can get this to work.

A freelance developer thought this would be possible by passing the authentication a different way, but he couldn't give me specifics.

I think this question comes up very frequently - but alas there is no solution.

It stupifies me that basic authentication is not part of a solution that wants to be taken seriously. I have a lot of photography clients for whom I setup and run their sites. They always want authentication, thus I always have to set them up with zenphoto.

Its very frustrating, when I know Koken would be a better day to day solution (they could do a lot more of their publishing and website management themselves mostly just using lightroom which they all use anyway. But then they don't have faith in secret URLS (and nor do I when you can download hacker built search engines in seconds to negate the do-not-crawl) to protect their / their clients content.

It would be soooo great for them to say, heres your link and user/password for your album -> boom!

Alas Kokens response for the last 18months or so that I have been following it has been "someday, maybe"

Sorry that doesn't assist much with your question, but did allow me to release a little steam :)

Bill – understood. The answer is the same it was before in that we’re still considering this going forward. It’s not by any means a small feature, for it would touch many aspects of the app. Would love to give you a definitive yes/no/when but that’s simply not possible at this point in time. Appreciate the feedback as always!

Really, really sorry to hear, that it is still only considered... Sorry to have taken possibility for granted (maybe naive, but thought simple htaccess would be piece of cake), and now need to look elsewhere and build a site again :(
