Question about Madison

Darren

Sep 29, 2014 02:34PM EDT

I really like the Madison theme, but before buying I'm wondering if it will allow me to have an image grid, and clicking on any of the images will open a lightbox with a video from Vimeo or YouTube, rather than a still image.

Thanks!

Hi Darren -

Yes and no.

Yes, Madison includes a grid layout you can customize to make the columns wider/thinner (for larger/smaller images), adjust padding/spacing, etc. Clicking on an image loads it in the lightbox. Here’s an example of that:

In order for content from Vimeo to appear on that same page, and load in the lightbox, it has to be part of the Library, which is possible with our premium Vimeo import plugin: https://store.koken.me/plugins/vimeo-import

Importing content from YouTube into the Koken library isn’t possible, but you can embed them in essays/pages (blog posts). Not quite the same as the grid of course but you get the idea.

Hope that helps!

Thanks for the response!

That's too bad if I'm understanding you correctly. So if I'm expecting a massive spike in traffic and don't want the video hosted on my own servers but on Vimeo's, then I don't really have any option to have those videos in the grid and open in a lightbox.

Or am I misunderstanding how the vimeo importing plugin works? Does it use a vimeo embed code, or import the actual file from Vimeo so it's self hosted?

The former, not the latter. Imported videos from Vimeo always use the Vimeo player. It’s the same player you see when embedding a Vimeo video by copying/pasting code into a page. The video is part of the Koken library and can be added to albums, mixed with images, and edited (title, color, etc). But the actual video file stays (and is played-back from) Vimeo.com. It’s not imported to your server.
