lazy load

Sep 09, 2014 11:56AM EDT

As I understand it. Your site is supposed to load all images on a page as they are viewed so that a page with 50 images is not loading them all at once.

My site is often "choking". By that I mean the loading icon shows but the page remains empty for long periods of time before even the first image shows.

So I contacted my server to do some tests on the site.
They state that not only are the images all loading at once, but that I'm only using .5% of my server "load" (so it's not the server being bogged down).

This occurs even on pages where I know that the cache has already been made for the images. Not always, but often.

Point being, there is some kind of glitch occurring that is choking the pages on my site with regularity.
What can we do to try and identify the issue?

Another observation that implies the lazy loading may not be working correctly: It seems that if a single image is added/replaced within an album's page... Nothing on the page will load (not even empty boxes with "loading" circles) until the new images have been "processed". This makes people think that the page simply is broken and has nothing on it.

So if I have an album page full cached, every photo.
Then add new images.
The next time that page is viewed, the page will sit there with nothing displaying until the new images has been cached... ONly then will the images start to load themselves onto the page.

I've tested this several times and it seems to be consistent.

I take an album page fully cached and view it many times over. Each time the page loads quickly.
Then i add a single image.
Next view of the page: The whole page sits there blank for 20 seconds before anything appears at all.

Additional information:

When this "choking" occurs the loading circle appear overtop of the side menu (the menu bar is already loaded and visible,, yet the loading circle appear there anyway)... as noted above nothing appears in the image frame. maybe this tells you something?
