how do I sort some albums ascending and some descending by capture date?

I can't figure out how I can sort some albums (such as weddings) ascending by capture date and other albums descending by capture date. When I choose "library order" the pages only display the manual sorting, which is useless to me for an album with hundreds of images. Please advise, thanks.

Hi Matt -

Right now all albums published from the Library to your site display their contents in manual (aka “Library”) order. To edit that you’d drag/drop images into the order you want in the Library.

The Library does allow you to click on Sort at the top and change the order, but that changes your current view (for editing purposes) inside the Library, not your live site. Images are still published in manual order.

To change album order on your live site you have to apply a custom sort to the album template, which means that sort will be applied to ALL albums that appear in the template. Here’s info on that:

If you don’t want that same sort for all albums then you would need to manually drag/drop the images into the order you want in the Library. It’s not possible to apply different automatic sorts to different albums, at least not yet. We’re going to be working towards making album properties more localized instead of global.

Thanks for your reply and explanation about this limitation. I would personally benefit from greater granularity in the sorting methods. Manual is tedious and I would love to sort a wedding and event albums ascending chronologically, but have most other albums sorted descending by capture date, ideally.

Yeah, totally understand. I very much want custom sorts on album pages on my own photography site as well! It’s not a small job and touches a bunch of other things, but is something we’ll definitely be looking at.
