Workaround for downloading video files

Richard Blakesley

Just in case it's helpful for anyone else, this is a way to enable visitors to download video files:

1. In "Settings -> Importing", set the default "Maximum image download" setting to "Original" *before* uploading the video file into your library (as you can't change the "Download" setting on video files once they're in your library).

2. Upload the video to your library

3. When you view the video on your site, there should be a Download link next to the video, but rather than allowing you to download the video, it actually just downloads a JPEG of the preview frame.

4. In "Settings -> Plugins", install the free HTML Injector plugin, then click "Setup".

5. Add the code below to the "Footer" section, which removes the link to the JPEG image and replaces it with a link to the original video file. Click the "Save" button and you're done.

Hope that helps!

<script type="text/javascript">
// Replace download links for videos
$( document ).ready(function() {
$('video').each(function( index ) {
var source = $(this).attr('src');
if ( source != '' ) {
$('h4:contains("Download")').next('p').html('<a href="' + source + '" download>Download video</a>');
