Having Issues with .htaccess file

Timothy C Lefkowitz

Hey There,

First off there is so much information spread around when it comes to the .htaccess file. It is a little difficult to put the info together.

I have uncommitted the lines that need to be uncommitted and now I can't seem to access the admin page at all. What I was trying to do is make my site use https instead of http so people don't get that harmful warming when checking out my portfolio.

I'm going to put the file back to it's original state.

How do I make my website https accessible for the public?
I'm using Ubuntu 14.08

Hello. Connect to your server via FTP. Open the .htaccess file in a text editor. At the top of the file are instructions about activating https for admin pages. You can also change to / instead of /admin/ so it works for the whole site. Here’s what it should look like:

  1. Uncomment the following block to force SSL when accessing /admin
    <IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
    RewriteEngine On
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} /
    RewriteCond %{SERVER_PORT} 80
    RewriteRule ^ https://%{HTTP_HOST}%{REQUEST_URI} [L,R=301]
